Even though Costa Rica is about the size of Virginia, USA, the travel time between cities can be longer than expected. The main roads in Costa Rica are generally very well maintained, but traveling through the mountain regions with twisty curvy roads behind a large delivery vehicle can double your time to your destination. Not to mention, the rain creating visibility issues or the fact that your destination could be on an unpaved, narrow, partially washed out road. This is truly the case in many areas we’ve visited and all of this can add to the length of your car ride.
