Airports in Costa Rica
There are two main airports that are located in Costa Rica. The Liberia International Airport (LIR) or, officially named, Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, is located in Guanacaste. Guanacaste is the Northwest region of Costa Rica and you would fly here if you are visiting Tamarindo, Samara, Playa Flamingo and others in this region.
The other airport is the San Jose International Airport, also known as Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). This is the airport you would fly into if you are visiting the Caribbean side, the Southern Pacific or the Central Valley.
If you’re staying in the Arenal or La Fortuna area, you could fly into either airport, as they are almost the same distance.
Many major airlines fly into both or at least one of these airports.
